The 1080 v14 features mostly subtle refinements compared to its predecessor. The midsole is made from soft Fresh Foam X cushioning, and the sole has a rocker shape to promote smooth transitions. The v14 comes with a new, well-padded mesh upper for improved breathability and an irritation-free fit; it also has increased midsole stiffness at the forefoot for a little extra pop at toe-off. Some RW testers laced up the 1080 for long runs, others saved it for mellow recovery days, but they all appreciated the shoe’s plush design: One runner called it “luxurious.”

I’ve also tried a pair, and I really enjoyed the v14’s cushy underfoot feel and wide, foot-cradling sole shape; the shoe felt great for jogs around my neighborhood. Whether you take it easy or push yourself to longer distances, the 1080’s generous midsole will help you glide along in comfort.

A popular and award-winning trail shoe, the Hierro continues with the formula that has won it such a loyal following: a soft Fresh Foam X midsole paired with a rugged and grippy Vibram outsole, now upgraded for v9 with deeper lugs for better grip on challenging terrain. Although it lacks a rock plate, the plush midsole does a good job of soaking up shocks and bumps on the trail.

The Hierro v9 features a dual-density Fresh Foam X midsole: a soft top layer cushions impacts and creates a plush underfoot feel, and a firmer lower layer stabilizes the shoe and keeps sharp debris from poking up into your feet. The mesh upper is designed to breathe well, and overlays keep your feet protected from scrapes against rocks and brush. On the bottom, the Vibram outsole now features enlarged 4.5mm lugs for plenty of bite in the dirt.

RW testers gave the Hierro high marks overall, and they especially loved its cushy Fresh Foam X midsole: “For comfort over distance, it’s one of the best I’ve tried,” one tester said.

But a few testers did note a sloppy fit that caused their feet to slide around in the shoe on technical terrain and downhills. That means the Hierro isn’t the best choice for super gnarly trails, but for everyday trail running on light to moderate terrain, its cushioned ride is top-notch.

New Balance has been steadily tweaking the Rebel over the past couple iterations, and the latest edition offers significantly increased cushioning while still maintaining a feathery weight. This is a great shoe for speed training, although it serves up a comfy overall feel that works well at slower speeds, too.

Like the v4, the Rebel v5 features a blend of PEBA and EVA foams in its FuelCell midsole. The main difference? There’s more of it: The shoe’s stack height grew from 30mm in the v4 up to 35mm in the v5. The sole has a pronounced rocker shape, and despite the relatively tall wedge of cushioning, our testers said the shoe felt firm—but comfy.

“[The Rebel v5] is just a little firmer than other New Balance shoes I’ve run in, but it gets the job done,” said tester Sean O’Connor, who previously tested the cushier FuelCell SuperComp Trainer. Despite the shoe’s firmer platform, O’Connor described the ride as “super comfortable the entire run.”

The Rebel lacks the carbon-fiber plate found in its race-oriented sibling, the SuperComp Elite, so it can’t quite achieve super shoe levels of bounciness from its midsole. Even so, runners say it feels peppy, and its more streamlined sole design makes it very comfortable at a wide range of paces.

When a brand puts “Elite” in a shoe’s name, you know you’re looking at a speedy pair of sneakers. The FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5 (say that five times fast) is the big kahuna in the NB lineup, and it’s built to power you to a PR on race day. After a major overhaul with the v4, this super shoe showcases additional refinements for v5 that make it even more speed-focused.

First off, the SC Elite went on a diet, shedding over an ounce compared to its predecessor, and the drop doubled. It retains the all-PEBA FuelCell midsole, giving it a well-cushioned underfoot feel, and it now comes with a stiffer carbon-fiber plate to stabilize your foot and help you wring maximum energy return from the foam.

Tester Eileen Cody, who previously tested the Asics Metaspeed and Adidas Adizero Adios Pro shoes, felt the New Balance shoe was more supportively cushioned for half and full marathons compared to the other carbon-plated trainers. She described how the miles felt “effortless” on long runs.

“I honestly forgot it was on my foot,” she said. “I also had no residual aches in my feet after the longer miles which sometimes happens in a carbon-plated shoe.”

The upper features a gusseted tongue for a close wrap around your foot (RW testers said the v4’s ungusseted tongue tended to move around too much) and generous padding at the heel for a comfy fit.

Another tester found the SC Elite to be a capable performer. Although she noted it’s not quite as springy as the Cielo X1, Hoka’s super shoe, she loved the SC Elite’s comfy feel and surprisingly stable ride. Bottom line: When race day comes around, this shoe will help you perform at your best.

New Balance Fresh Foam X 860 v14

Now on its 14th iteration, the 860 is a trusted workhorse trainer that offers a supportive feel and good cushioning for routine training miles. The latest version was built around a new last and features a revised rocker shape for smooth strides; it also includes a Stability Plane, a thin, stiff EVA-based midsole plate that supports the foot.

The 860 is built with a relatively wide full-contact sole, which gives it some inherent stability. The midsole features two flavors of Fresh Foam X plus the embedded Stability Plane. There’s a denser, harder layer of foam at the bottom, and it works in concert with the rigid Stability Plane to resist overpronation and support the foot. The top layer of the midsole is a softer version of Fresh Foam X that absorbs impact forces for a plush feel.

The result is a planted, predictable ride with good cushioning, and RW testers offered universal praise for it: One tester said the 860’s midsole “makes for near effortless running.” The upper was another highlight for the testing squad. It’s generously padded around the ankle and on the tongue, creating a snug, glove-like fit that keeps the foot secure while running.

With its somewhat heavy build and comfort-oriented midsole design, the 860 isn’t the smartest choice for tempo runs, but testers loved it for general training, and it’s a great pick for those who need some extra support under their feet. As one reviewer put it: “Sometimes, there’s nothing like a shoe design that has stood the test of time.”

There are several ways to measure the size of a watch, such as the lug to lug width, strap width and case thickness. All of these dimensions are almost always measured in millimeters.

You want to pay close attention to the size of the case (specifically, the case diameter).

When people talk about watch size, they’re usually talking about case diameter. So if someone says they’re looking for watches under 40mm, they mean watches with case diameters of less than 40 millimeters.

Watch case size is extremely subject to change based on whatever is trendy, but it seems that the “average” watch case these days is around 40mm.

Unfortunately, even that is too big for men with small wrists.

Note: If you’re not sure whether you have thin wrists, you should measure them. Use tailor tape to measure around the widest point of your wrist – right over the bone. Anything less than 6.5″ can be considered thin.

You might be able to wear 40mm watches if they have thin cases and a shorter lug-to-lug distance, but your best bet is to stick with something smaller (less than 40mm in case diameter).

Unless you’re a watch enthusiast or collector, you don’t need tons of different watches in your collection. At the very least, make sure you have one dress watch and one casual watch (like a diver).

Your dress watch should be sleek and minimal with a clean face. I prefer leather straps, and my go to color is brown (since most of my dress shoes are brown).

The ever-so-trending look of women wearing trousers with a chic sweater, graphic tee, or even an elegant top creates such a classic, feminine style. While trousers seem to be a staple in today’s closet for all occasions, there is a lot of history and controversy behind how this clothing item found its place in women’s closets.

Dating back to women’s fashion hundreds of years ago, women were predominantly seen in long, full-coverage dresses. The outfits were not designed for functionality but rather to accentuate the woman’s curves with tight corsets, petticoats, and long skirts below their ankles. In 1851, an American woman named Elizabeth Smith Miller became uncomfortable gardening in her restrictive yet acceptable outfit. She followed a trend she noticed in Europe and began wearing “Turkish Trousers,” which were baggy trousers that gathered at the ankles, worn under skirts, and eventually became known as “bloomers.” She published an article in her local newspaper about Turkish trousers to spread the look to other women who felt the same. This article received extreme backlash from the community; however, many women felt affected by this cause and began to take part.

A little while after Elizabeth Smith Miller’s article, in the early 1900s, a French designer, Paul Poiret, created a feminine pair of bloomers with intricate embroidery down the leg and a tapered cuff at the ankle. This allowed women to enjoy fashion without sacrificing functionality, yet Poiret’s design was still considered too provocative and received an enormous amount of criticism. As many women were still attempting to revolutionize fashion, Vogue printed its first magazine that featured a woman in trousers similar to Poiret’s in 1917. While going against popular opinion, Vogue continued to feature different variations of pants and bottoms for women in its magazine.

The most pivotal point for pants in women’s fashion was World War II when businesses began hiring women into stores, factories, and offices to support the war effort. As many of these women were entering the workforce, they found that their long dresses not only were restrictive but also dangerous in such working environments. Women had finally given in and were almost forced into changing their work attire and began wearing pants and trousers to work.

While today the trouser style of pants is still seen as a clothing item related to work, the office, or being in a formal and corporate environment, it has made the transition to everyday style. It is chic, feminine, and so classy. Many brands like Alice and Olivia, Artizia, Cinq a Sept, and Zara have great trousers that are classic but also fun with detailing. We are finally celebrating the long journey of trousers!

Y’all know I am no stranger to a capsule wardrobe. I have done a spring version and a maternity version that you certainly should check out. So I wanted to curate a capsule wardrobe that’s fit for a season where holiday parties are part of the agenda but alas so are plans for snuggling on the couch with loved ones, trips to the store, and memorable dinners at a cozy restaurant…my favorite!

So what exactly is a capsule wardrobe? Creating a capsule wardrobe is all about editing down your closet to your favorite essentials that can easily be mixed and matched to create complete outfits. The point is to make it so you can open your closet in the morning and not have to stress about what to wear. Your closet is set up for success already with minimal pieces that are curated to be worn together in new ways!

With that, the point of creating a capsule wardrobe is so that you’re shopping online less and instead “shopping” your closet more. It forces you to create more outfits out of what you already own. You’re able to get a bit more creative and I think it makes fashion a lot more fun!

How To Create A Winter Capsule Wardrobe

There are no hard fast rules on how to create a “perfect” winter capsule wardrobe. Obviously, you know yourself and your style better than anyone else. Don’t be influenced by any capsule guide that these are 100% the pieces you have to own and nothing else. Quite the opposite. My winter capsule wardrobe here I hope serves as more of a guide as you curate your closet this season. So here are a few notes to keep in mind:

White House Black Market started in 1985, in Baltimore, under the brand The White House, with an inventory of exclusively white clothing.

In 1995, they launched a similar store called The Black Market, and by 1997, after the tremendous success of both concepts, they were converting all of their existing stores and opening new locations under the name White House Black Market.

As WHBM‘s were exploding across the country, I was graduating from high school and starting college. Who knew a store that only sold white and black clothing would be so necessary for that part of my life?

From white sorority dresses to classic black pants for my first “real job,” shopping at WHBM made me feel like a real grown up. 

Like so many stores from that era (Express, J.Crew, Banana Republic), they’ve gone through some phases, but eventually, their inventory caught up to their original customers.

What to Buy at White House Black Market for Summer 

Today, WHBM is owned by Chico’s, but their demographic skews much younger than their parent brand. So while I found so many must-haves in my early twenties, I am right back as their target market at 42.

Currently, WHBM offers sizes in regular, or what they call “classic” and petite, from 00 – 18.

A while back, they launched plus sizes, and they were incredible. Unfortunately, they quietly pulled the collection and currently do not offer any extended sizes. This could be for a few reasons but typically any time something comes in and out that quickly it’s because the launch wasn’t profitable. 

Hopefully they can figure it out because it would fill a big retail void. 

Their prices are mid-range, reflective of their better quality, so if you see something you love that’s within your budget, don’t wait for a sale, they don’t give away their clothes with crazy promotions. 

And because this is not a sponsored post, I can call it the good with the bad. For example, I’m not a fan of most of their prints or accessories.

You can find better options at other stores for much less.

But they also have many gorgeous pieces that look like they came right out of a small boutique instead of a national chain.

Below are my top picks, including the pieces I bought for myself for an upcoming trip to Nashville.

You probably know how difficult it is right now to find a dress that doesn’t look like a tent. 

I can’t tell you how many hours I spend scrolling through simply terrible options. But WHBM has a lot to offer and there’s a lot to like about this particular style. 

A v-neck shape that comes with a face framing color, a defined waist and very subtle tiers that give more visual interest and volume. 

And it’s light, so you can wear it on hot days when shorts aren’t an option. 

Pair with sandals or white sneakers and throw on your denim jacket if you need a layer.

Did someone say “summer date night top”? 

I scooped this up to pair with white jeans just like they have shown above. It’s an easy going-out top that feels both grown up and a little sexy.

Scoop Neck Tank

You may have noticed the muscle tee trend. A simple sleeveless white “tee” with a straight across neckline. 
It’s currently very chic and popular, and looks great on someone with narrow shoulders. 

For the rest of us we look like linebackers. But this version, with a scoop neck, gives you the same easy style in a much more flattering cut.

Caftan Coverup

For me, there is no better way to feel good pool side than with a fabulous cover up. And while this one is on the expensive side, it is so fun and gorgeous.
